Hindi or English: which language should you take your test in?

Many Himachal exams have bilingual papers. You do not have to choose once and for all, but a clear habit saves time.

Use the language you think in

Read in the language in which you understand a question fastest. If you studied in Hindi medium, do not switch to English in order to look serious. Reading time is exam time.

But know the key terms in both

Maths and science words, like "ratio", "percentage" and "मूलधन", can appear in either language in your books and in the paper. Learn the key words as pairs.

When the two versions differ

Translations are sometimes imperfect. In the HP Police notification, for example, if the English and Hindi versions differ, the English version is treated as correct and final. So if a Hindi question seems odd, take a quick look at the English. Check this rule for your exam too, since it can differ.
